How can you build a home Internet business without anything to sell? Building a home Internet business is similar to building a successful offline business – but it is easier as it just requires a LOT less working capital and setup.

Trust

That’s right. Contrary to what other websites may dictate, you cannot simply throw up a website and expect to income to just start rolling in.

So your biggest concern should NOT be trying to quickly figure out a topic and products/services to sell, if you truly want to build a home internet business the right way.

Any business owner worth her salt has learned that building trust and customer relationships is the only way to build a successful business.

No technological advances in marketing or fancy website gizmos can change that. Your website visitors will not continue to visit your site if you offer just flash and no value-added substance. And if they stop visiting, your chances of building a strong home internet business and income have gone down the drain...

So first, build your credibility. Write your website as though you are talking to a friend, giving her helpful information without any strings attached. Your visitors will appreciate that, and reward you in the future when the time is right.

This attitude adjustment will go a long way in building trust with your visitors.

But I want to build a home internet business to make money now

And if you take my recommendations of carefully staging your monetization efforts, then that is much more likely to happen for you...with time.

But first, you must provide real VALUE for your website visitors in order to build trust. After a few months of providing this value (without any selling or ads) AND after you have built up a steady stream of daily traffic to your site, then you will be ready to introduce some recommended products and service.

If you stop to think about it, this approach makes sense because:

· It’s inefficient to try “selling” yet if you have no traffic (i.e. nobody to sell to)

· It’s not effective to try to immediately sell or make recommendations to someone who does not know or trust you

· An immediate hard sell (sales page and ads) pegs you as profit-motivated and not concerned about the real value you are delivering to your customers

There are no shortcuts from this approach, if you want to build a home internet business successfully.

Once you have done your homework to build up a content-rich, value-added website for your visitors, and built up a steady stream of traffic...

THEN you can slowly start adding ways to make income from your site, such as the following:

· Online merchant account – if you plan to sell a product or service online

· Affiliate programs (if related, value-added, and non-competing). Slowly start making contextual, hype-free recommendations within your website content.

· Google adsense ads – where appropriate and in moderation

Are you afraid to miss any monetization opportunities? At this stage, you shouldn’t be.

If anything, you can start a regular ezine and encourage website visitors to subscribe. This way, you can always keep your site on their radar screen while building your credible brand with content...until they are ready to visit again, buy something, or take one of your recommendations.

Bottom line:

Avoid monetizing your website too early. To build a home internet business successfully, take your time to build TRUST, credibility, and a sincere relationship with your visitors by providing real value to them. The weight of your recommendations will grow as you nurture your relationships by providing valuable content on your website.
