Web Copywriting Tips

How to Write for your Website

“But I don’t know how to write well...”

Even if that's how you feel, you should know that you don’t have to be a top-notch writer to make a winning business website. You don’t need to write to impress other people with your vocabulary.

You just need to write to communicate your ideas clearly.

Website Writing Tips

· Write your ideas/notes, an outline, and then quickly write a rough draft.

· Use simple words and complete sentences. Extremely long sentences and lots of text do not impress. In fact, they confuse and alienate your visitors.

· Use plenty of white space on your page. For readability, skip lines and use short paragraphs.

· Write naturally as if you were speaking to a friend.

· Use lively language and tell an interesting story (instead of writing a long list of features) to engage your readers.

If you use the writing tips above, I think you'll find that writing can actually be enjoyable and not intimidating –- even if you have never done a lot of writing before.

After writing a first draft, read it over again carefully to correct the flow, and any spelling and grammar mistakes. Then ask a friend or family member to help you do the same if possible.

Let your writing "sit" for a few days, and come back to it for more editing with a fresh perspective.

Just keep it simple, and your writing will improve.
