Checking the Domain Internet Name Registry

How to Check the Domain Internet Name Registry

First of all, what is a domain name?

· Your business website address -- where you live on the Internet. It is like a business phone number (domain is also customizable if available) or mailing address but for your website.

· Your brand – for your domain name, you could use an existing business name if the domain is available and not already listed in the Internet name registry. Or you could build a brand online for a new Internet business.

Compare SBI! with other Web hosts.

Generally, you should stick with a domain name ending in “.com” whenever possible. Names ending in “.net” and “.org” (if you are a nonprofit) are standard and memorable, too. Others are available but lack credibility, and are harder to remember because they are not the standard and used less frequently.

When and how do you pick a domain name?

Only after you are sure of your business website topic, and are confident with your strategy... then pick your existing business name (a natural choice) or variation of it, and/or do some creative brainstorming to produce a list of options you like and are appropriate.

Keep it short, relevant, and memorable. Pick a name that ends in the standard, easy to remember “.com”. Of course, if you want to prevent competitors from buying similar names, you can also buy the domain names ending in .net and .org as well.

Check domain name availability – go to a domain name registrar, such as GoDaddy, to check availability of the name in the domain Internet name registry, and buy your domain name. After you receive your confirmation page and email receipt for your purchase – congrats! You will be the proud owner of your own domain name, a piece a real estate on the Internet.

Just make sure you stay on top of paying your registrar annual fees – they do not cost much, but it can be a huge pain if you forget or fail to renew and pay for your annual domain name registration fees each year. Don’t learn the hard way!
